CRAFTING THE CATWALK

Inspired by a print from the Autumn Winter 2013 collection, our show set used English countryside ephemera to create a set of beautiful entwined flowers, interspersed with woodland creatures and butterflies. It took 420 bluebells, 100 sunflower petals, 26 Mulberry leaves, 1200 butterflies and 30 large-scale poppies, all hand-crafted, to transform the Claridge’s Ballroom into an Autumn Winter 2013 scene.

Thank you to Millington Associates for their hard work in bringing the design to life.

CATCHING UP WITH CARA

We spoke to model Cara Delevingne as she had her hair and makeup done before the Mulberry Autumn Winter 2013 show yesterday.

If you could be anywhere in five minutes, where would it be?
Oh, a desert island, just lying on the sand, in the sun and scuba diving.

How do you pass the time backstage at a show?
Probably almost asleep – generally trying to zone out for a bit while someone holds my head up! Or talking to friends, catching up with what the other girls are doing.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Just Kids by Patti Smith.

Which song makes you happy?
Ooo, that’s so hard. I want to say I’m Every Woman by Chaka Khan. [sings the chorus] yes, that one!

What skill would you like to acquire in five minutes?
To be able to speak another language, maybe Chinese. I would say to be able to play more instruments but I already play the drums, the guitar, the bass, the piano…

What’s your favourite English thing?
A red double decker bus. So iconic. Or a crumpet! I love a crumpet.

What’s the most interesting thing in your handbag?
Maybe my Polaroid camera?

This was your first time walking for Mulberry…
I am so happy to walk for Mulberry. I love the handbags so much. They’re my failsafe bag, I’m not the kind of person to change my bag every day, and so I need something that works. Always Mulberry. I love them. I also have a very cool pair of Mulberry trainers which I love, they’re the best.

GETTING BUTTERFLIES

Our Autumn Winter 2013 show is fast-approaching and the Mulberry press team have started to send out the invitations.

The show invitation starts the story of what’s to come on show day. The inspiration is often taken from a tiny element of the upcoming collection, combined with signature Mulberry design touches.

For Autumn Winter 2013 a single special butterfly forms the invitation. The butterfly is made from a triplex of GF Smith Colourplan Card sheets, two azure and one ebony to create crafted side detailing. Between the layers are balancing weights, hidden in the wings to create the perfect balancing effect when laid on a flat surface edge.

Throughout the week we’ll be posting more exclusive stories from the build-up to the show including the preparation, news from backstage and detailed insights into next season’s collection from Sunday 17 February.

Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @Mulberry_Editor and like us on Facebook for more from behind the scenes at London Fashion Week.

CATWALK COLLECTION CECILY

On the Spring Summer 2013 catwalk we debuted a new Cecily, and updated both the classic shoulder style and the tote with intricate flower detailing. Creative director Emma Hill was inspired by English spring flowers for the season, and worked florals into bespoke prints and hardware for bags, shoes and coats.

The signature postman’s lock has a seasonal touch with petal detailing, and the leather trim is softened with a scalloped edge.

The Spring Summer 2013 Catwalk Collection is now available.
