INTRODUCING THE DEL REY

The Del Rey has arrived in stores and online, here to shop, to touch, to love.

Join the Del Rey conversation on Twitter and Facebook.

Introducing the Del Rey

The bag

Inspired by singer Lana Del Rey, the Del Rey also pays homage to classic Mulberry detailing and style accents. It is refined and practical, and although it implies structure the leather is soft and tactile, able to hold everything you might need and be as dressed up, or down, as you like.

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey’s beautiful voice and nostalgic style have captivated us on more one occasion. Creative Director Emma Hill found inspiration in her coquettish elegance and desire to mix high and low cultural references in her music and fashion. Lana has a bespoke Del Rey in White Ostrich, as Emma says: ‘The white with the gold accent suited Lana perfectly – it’s glamorous, and a little bit retro!’

Shop the Del Rey online, and choose between Black and Deer Brown – two timeless colours that will age beautifully.

DINNER ON THE UPPER EAST SIDE

Creative Director Emma Hill and Frieze founders Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover joined forces to host an intimate dinner in honour of the artists of Frieze Projects.

The Mulberry-sponsored Frieze Projects is a not-for-profit initiative featuring commissioned artworks around the outdoor space of Randall’s Island, which are accessible to all visitors to the area.

The artists involved with Frieze Projects attended the dinner, held at The Crown restaurant on New York’s Upper East Side, joining guests Lana Del Rey (who sang an exclusive set for our guests), Alexa Chung, Lauren Remington-Platt and the Courtin-Clarins sisters Claire, Jenna, Virginie and Prisca as well as Frieze Projects curator Cecilia Alemani.

Emma carried the Double Handled Lily in Flame Exotic Tweed – on a sneaky outing before its main release during late summer. Lana carried her namesake Del Rey in Black, which is launching soon.

HERSELF

We recently found Herself Magazine and we can’t get enough of the amazing illustrations inside. Every page is illustrated, whether it’s a ‘photoshoot’, advert or interview. Issue Two is now available and features amazing illustrated portraits of everyone from Snow White to Kate Moss and Helen Mirren. We love this beautiful image of Mulberry friend Lana Del Rey!

Herself’s editor, Lula, has a blog (also completely digitally illustrated) where she comments about the shows and collections as well as sharing ‘behind the scenes’ photos.

THE DEL REY

It’s the morning of our London Fashion Week show and Claridge’s Hotel in London is buzzing with activity! But we just wanted to take a moment to announce some exciting news!

We are launching a new bag, the Del Rey
- inspired by American songstress Lana Del Rey.

Lana has mastered the style of Old Hollywood, mixing it with an edgy sense of fun. This contrast appeals to us: we love mixing eclectic references with classic details in the way that Lana does.

The Del Rey bag is infused with this idea, combined with the easy sensibility and English common-sense practicality of our heritage icons.

This exciting new addition to our family launches in May as part of our Autumn Winter 2012 collection. Don’t forget to watch the new season show live on mulberry.com at 10am (GMT).

Sign up to be the first to find out more about the Del Rey – we’ll give you all the details!

LANA DEL REY: ON VIDEO GAMES

American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey performed for us at Chateau Marmont in LA last December as part of the Mix Tape Tour. We spoke exclusively to her about the making of the video for her nostalgically beautiful single Video Games.

We can’t wait to see and hear more from Lana in 2012.

LIVE AT CHATEAU MARMONT

We were lucky enough to have the beautiful Lana Del Rey perform live for us at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, as part of the Mulberry Mix Tape Tour. Her iconic single Video Games is on our most-listened-to list, and her poolside performance was hauntingly beautiful.

WE LOVE: LANA DEL REY

She has a nostalgic, epic voice and defines her music as ‘Hollywood pop/sadcore’ – if you haven’t heard of Lana Del Rey, you soon will.

Born in Lake Placid on the outer edges of New York State, she moved to New York City and began her reincarnation to her movie star-esque persona at eighteen. Always with a natural propensity towards stardom (she traded in her birth name of Lizzie Grant for the more nostalgic moniker she now goes by) her influences are visual as well as musical: David Lynch, 1950s movie soundtracks, the whirring sound of Ferris at Coney Island.

Brittle, emotional and cascading with cinematic reference points, her songwriting is technicolor. The tainted glamour of Video Games with its noir-ish melodic feel was the start of something big and beautiful. The next step is a debut album, complementing the lush orchestration of her famed single, crafted lovingly in the studio.

Lana said of the album: “The songs I’ve written are an homage to true love and a tribute to living life on the wild side.”
