TWIN SHADOW

We were lucky to have the multi-talented George Lewis (better known as Twin Shadow) DJ at our pool party in Los Angeles at the end of last year. We were even luckier when he agreed to perform a cover of a great British song by a great British artist – Peter Gabriel. He also had time for a chat with Harley Viera Newton in infamous Bungalow 2 at Chateau Marmont.

LOVE & LYRICS

Six up and coming duos or bands performed exclusive covers of their favourite British love songs for the Mix Tape Tour. Make sure you stop for a listen!

Between performances, we chatted to Jamie N Commons and The Dø about their chosen songs and falling in love.

Which song did you choose and why?

Jamie N Commons: Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. As I understand it Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters wrote this title track about former band member Syd Barrett’s slow detachment from reality due to drug abuse. So to me this songs all about loving someone whose motor’s still running, but there’s no one at the wheel… which is a weird feeling. Being able to talk to and see someone who’s basically already lost to you. I had a very similar circumstance recently, so this song has been really helpful.

The Dø: Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones. We chose it because it’s not so well known and it was a challenge to make it ours while still sticking to the original mood.

What is your favourite lyric from the song?

Jamie N Commons: So many great lines I’m gonna say the whole second verse…”How, how I wish you were here, Cause we’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, Running over the same old ground, what have we found? The same old fears, wish you were here.”

The Dø: “I have my freedom but I don’t have much time.”

Who or what was your first love?

Jamie N Commons: Lindsay Lohan in the Parent Trap!
The Dø: A musician in my first band when I was 13.

What is love?

Jamie N Commons: Al Green’s vocal delivery in “How can You Mend A Broken Heart?”
The Dø: “Baby don’t hurt me.”
